Ansal Plaza Delhi: no rush this time

Thursday, September 14th, 2006

I have been to this place 2 years back and believe me at that time there was no better place to date with girlfriend. Now the number of malls in Gurgaon and Delhi have over taken the charm of this place. Actually our Netaji’s arjun ka rath jammed on the way when we were on the way to Gurgaon and fortunately it happened near to the famous Ansal’s Plaza. We went to Mc Donald’s over there and had our lunch waiting there for the mechanic.

Are Gurgaon and Delhi prepared for flood?

Are Gurgaon and Delhi prepared for flood?

I was on a Business promotion trip in Delhi. I just had to visit 3 places, Okhla Industrial Area, Kalka Ji and Mahipalpur. It was rainy weather in the city right from the morning and it started raining be afternoon.

After the rain started I had completed the Okhla’s work, but I took me 2 hours to reach Kalkaji from Okhla which is merely 10 Km from Okhla. From Okhla I took a straight root Mahipalpur via R K Puram and domestic airport. It took me 3 hours from R K Puram to the Airport itself. What the Hell!! And this just happened because of the HEAVY water logging near the airport and flyover construction going on on the way. Still not over, I got a jam at the Iffco Chowk in Gurgaon and then the insane Jharsa flyover.

If this has happened due to the 4 rainy hours in both the cities, then what will happen if it rains for 4 days? Are we prepare for flood? I feel absolutely not, coz Gurgaon itself has very poor water disposal system and especially the new Gurgaon area.

Idiotic changes in the roads in Gurgaon

Idiotic changes in the roads in Gurgaon

This is strange as well as frustrating. The Gurgaon traffic police has the Bristol circle to a Bristol U to avoid traffic jams. Now, people who are coming from Delhi and want to visit the malls will have to go straight from Sikandarpur Cirle to the Golf Course road and take a U turn from the DT Mega Mall. This is bullshit. Earlier they have done this on the Mehrauli road by closing the U turn before the Metropolitan Mall for Sushant Lok and travelers have to travel a long way from Metropolitan to DLF Phase 2 entrance opposite to the Sahara Mall getting back the Vatika Traingle then to the DT City Center and the you can get into Sushant Lok.

Same thing has been done in Old Gurgaon also. I have my companies bank account in Bank on India, and while going over there I have to move from jail road to Basai raod and after taking a U turn from basai road I have to again come back to the Old railway road which takes an extra 15 min.

Is this the only way to solve traffic problems? Gurgaon is one of the best cities and proper planning is required to improve the city.

Commonwealth Games: Just 1500 days to go

So the countdown for the Commonwealth Games 2010 has just begun. Its just 1500 days more and do you think that are we ready for it? Athletes from 71 countries will in the capital and there are many things that need to be done. Delhi is short of hotel rooms, infrastructure, transport facilities, logistics and much much more.

Rajiv Gandhi Chowk Flyover is Gurgaon… awesome!!!

Rajiv Gandhi Chowk Flyover is Gurgaon… awesome!!!

This flyover was delayed to construct but now one of the best flyovers I like. This flyover took about 2 years to finish and is just adjacent to the Jharsa flyover. The six lane flyover was just finished in June 2006 which was proposed to be competed in December 2005. Whether it was politics, bureaucracy or the prices of the steel to elongate the deadline…. Nobody knows. There are 6 flyovers to be completed to bring the traffic to a streamline in Gurgaon starting from Shankar Chowk near Udyog Vihar, Iffco Chowk, Signature Tower Chowk, 32nd Milestone, Jharsa Chowk and Rajiv Chowk. After all these structures are completed, maybe people can get relief for 2 – 3 years but its obvious that a good planning is needed in Gurgaon to synchronies the traffic.

Hotel Industry after Commonwealth Games 2010

Hotel Industry after Commonwealth Games 2010

Our country, especially Delhi is preparing fast for the Commonwealth games in 2101. I was just going through the Newspaper and saw that the DDA is auctioning hotel sites in Delhi in September 2006. These hotel sites are in Jasola, Dwarka, Shalimar Bagh, Wazirpur and many more sites are there. 10 sites will be auctioned in September itself.

The study by these newspapers says that if the Hotel site is auctioned for Rs. 400 Crores and the hotel building of 400 rooms will approximately need 600 Crores that makes the total to be 1000 Crores. In that case the Room Rate would be Rs. 25000/- per room per day just for breaking even!!!!!! Strange to here right!!!!

Now, what I think is that …. OK, people coming to visit the Commonwealth games might pay this amount for a room.

BUT…..

After the commonwealth games are over, what will happen with these hotels? Instead odf staying in a room for 25000/- bucks at Josola or Shalimar Bagh, I would prefer to stay at 10000/- bucks at the TAJ at Dhaula Kuan.

Flood alert in Bhilwara, Rajasthan !!!!

Wednesday, August 23rd, 2006

How can this be possible? I got a phone call from my uncle yesterday that flood alert has been declared by the local authorities in Bhilwara, Rajasthan. I have spend almost my entire childhood in Bhilwara and never heard of this news before. The Meja Dam is overflowing with 26 feets of water and if it keeps on raining like this, then the dam will have to discharge the water in to the Kothari river which will overflow and there will be a danger of the Old Bhilwara area getting submerged into the water. Strange!!!

This year actually, Rajasthan got good rainfall. When I was on the way to Bhilwara early this month, I saw the green crops by the roadsides which I never saw in my entire time of stay in Bhilwara. If it goes on like this, the state will definitely progress.

Long live our flyovers… the Jharsa flyover

Tuesday, August 15th, 2006

Since long, we have been waiting for the flyover to get completed so that the increasing traffic of Gurgaon can enjoy the ‘expected’ smooth drive to dhaula kuan. Rajiv Chowk flyover which could not make it on time was complete 6 months after the schedule that too maybe because of the political pressure of the present government. Just today I saw that the underpass of the Jharsa Flyover opposite to Sector 15. So I thought to capture it.

Reliance headhunting Maruti employees for Retailing Auto Spare Parts

Monday, August 14th, 2006

There’s news that Reliance Retail has already head hunted some employees of Maruti Udyog limited in Gurgaon is really shocking. Reliance Retail, the expected organized retail chain giant is planning to get into the auto spare parts industry, has already employed Arun De who was the Deputy GM at Maruti’s used car business, True Value.

The company (Reliance Retail) may also get into the vehicle sales too. The spares and accessories market in India, worth Rs 7,000 crore, is essentially driven by small roadside stores.

With the proposed retail venture aims to cover 1,500 cities and towns, with 1,500 supermarkets and 1,000 hypermarkets, I personally feel that this is going to make a sharp turn in the accessories market as well and a bad time for the auto part retailers. Well, nothing’s gonna happen to the authorized showrooms. What can be the reliance’s next step in retail??? Would it be selling bricks, cement, steel for construction and selling chaat pakora or ice creams at every corner of the city??? Who knows ??? :p

SEZ : Special Economic Zones in Gurgaon

Tuesday, August 1st, 2006

Its good to hear that Haryana’s CM, Mr. Hooda is keen to get more and more Business Tycoons to the state. Therefore there are 21 SE Zones that are being proposed into the Haryana State out of which around 16 are passed. I don’t have the exact location of these zones but Reliance and DLF SEZ’s and some more are very near to Gurgaon.

Well, its great from the business and econiomic progress point of view. But, I personally feel that the policies mentioned in the SEZ Act would face amendments very soon.
