Sealing campaign in Delhi : What a mess

Wednesday, September 20th, 2006

Today some political agencies called up the “Delhi Band”, It was actually the full stop in Delhi daily activities. Not only the shops were closed, masses were on road totally blocking the roads, damaging the public property. At Silampur, an area in Delhi, had lathicharge of police, police opened the fire out there. Two get injured too. And wonderful thing is that in an interview one politician on TV was calling this band activity as totally successful. According to them they were peacefully protesting at Vikas Marg, and coincidentally major riot took place very near to that place. I am asking a question, complete delhi was in protest why this bad event happened in that particular area only.

I ask, Is this the right way to protest against something.
Is violence can make the things right.

Mahindra Scorpio Vs Toyota Innova

Mahindra Scorpio Vs Toyota Innova

We are in process of getting another vehicle for our office use. So we went to try the new Mahindra Scorpio this time. You cannot call it a car, it’s a jeep altogether. I don’t know why Mahindra is making vehicles without proper planning.

Its great that my height is 5’7” so I could fit in the car. If my height would have been 6 feets, I could not fit in the car. The legroom is so less that 6 people with good height cannot fit together. The engine is no doubt the best I have ever experienced from any vehicle of this segment, even better then our Toyota Innova G4. Pickup is superb. Breaking is so so. Gear lever us tight as jeeps, steering also not as good as Innova. Not at all a comfortable car. I can drive the Innova 1000 Km a day but I can never do that with Scorpio. Also the worst part is that the top model on road will costs more than 9 Lakhs which in not worth it. I would prefer to take another Innova V model rather.

Are Gurgaon and Delhi prepared for flood?

Are Gurgaon and Delhi prepared for flood?

I was on a Business promotion trip in Delhi. I just had to visit 3 places, Okhla Industrial Area, Kalka Ji and Mahipalpur. It was rainy weather in the city right from the morning and it started raining be afternoon.

After the rain started I had completed the Okhla’s work, but I took me 2 hours to reach Kalkaji from Okhla which is merely 10 Km from Okhla. From Okhla I took a straight root Mahipalpur via R K Puram and domestic airport. It took me 3 hours from R K Puram to the Airport itself. What the Hell!! And this just happened because of the HEAVY water logging near the airport and flyover construction going on on the way. Still not over, I got a jam at the Iffco Chowk in Gurgaon and then the insane Jharsa flyover.

If this has happened due to the 4 rainy hours in both the cities, then what will happen if it rains for 4 days? Are we prepare for flood? I feel absolutely not, coz Gurgaon itself has very poor water disposal system and especially the new Gurgaon area.

Steve Irwin Dead : The Crocodile Hunter is no more

Tuesday, September 5th, 2006

This is Bad!!! Really Bad!!

I liked this guy coz of his attitude to handle the animals. Steve Irwin was a wildlife expert and television personality, best known for the television program The Crocodile Hunter, an unconventional wildlife documentary series broadcast worldwide and co-hosted with his wife Terri. He was also owner and operator of Australia Zoo, in Beerwah, Queensland.

on 4 September 2006, Irwin was fatally pierced in the chest by a short-tail stingray barb while diving in Batt Reef (part of the Great Barrier Reef), off the coast of Port Douglas in Queensland, Australia. Irwin was in the area filming his own documentary, to be called The Ocean’s Deadliest, but weather had stalled filming. Irwin decided to take the opportunity to film some shallow water shots for a segment in the television program his daughter Bindi was hosting, when, according to his friend and colleague John Stainton, he swam too close to one of the animals. “He came on top of the stingray and the stingray’s barb went up and into his chest and put a hole into his heart,” said Stainton, who was on board Irwin’s boat, called the Croc I, at the time.

The events were caught on camera, and the footage was handed to the Queensland Police. After reviewing the footage of the incident and speaking to the cameraman who recorded it, marine documentary filmmaker and fisherman Ben Cropp speculated that the stingray “felt threatened because Steve was alongside and there was the cameraman ahead.” In such a case, the stingray responds by automatically flexing the serrated barb on its tail up to a maximum of 25 cm (10 in) of length. Cropp said Irwin had accidentally boxed the animal in. “It stopped and twisted and threw up its tail with the spike, and it caught him in the chest. It’s a defensive thing. It’s like being stabbed with a dirty dagger.” The stinging of Irwin by the bull ray was “a one-in-a-million thing,” Cropp told Time magazine. “I have swum with many rays, and I have only had one do that to me.” Immediately after the attack, Irwin was shown on tape pulling the barb out, before losing consciousness. It is thought, in the absence of a coroner’s report, that either the toxins of the barb caused Irwin to die of an apparent cardiac arrestmor that he died quickly as a result of a punctured aorta

Crewmembers aboard his boat called the emergency services in the nearest city of Cairns and administered CPR as they rushed the boat to nearby Lowe Isle to meet a rescue helicopter. Medical staff pronounced Irwin dead when they arrived a short time later.

Irwin’s body was flown to a morgue in Cairns. His wife was on a walking tour in Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park in Tasmania at the time, and returned via a private plane from Devonport to the Sunshine Coast with their two children.

This was only the third known fatality in Australian history from a stingray attack, and the first since 1945. As of 1996, only seventeen worldwide fatalities had been recorded, and it is believed to be the only fatal attack ever captured on film.

Is Bajaj getting over Hero Honda?

Wednesday, August 30th, 2006

Being into the Real Estate consultancy in Gurgaon, I have come across many companies in IMT Manesar, Udyog Vihar, Pace City and Infocity who have been supplying spare parts to Hero Honda and Maruti Udyog. What these people say is that Hero Honda is very shy nowadays in production. The reason is that, they are loosing market share. Then who is gaining the market share? No doubt, the answer is Bajaj Auto. With so many new models coming up, Pulsar, DTSi, Discover DTSi, Platina very frequently into the market, I feel that CONSTANTLY INNOVATING is where Hero Honda is loosing. There’s a recent news also that Hero Honda is coming up with a plant in Uttaranchal also, that may be to get the tax benefits and other stuff. But I feel that the company while cutting their cost should concentrate more on new models. Splendor is the only model I think is going good in the market, other models are so so and the company cannot rely on just one model for its survival.

Which is the best brand?

Which is the best brand?

I went through a business magazine today, its about the best brands in India. What they have done is that they have decided the top brands without segregating the industry. Like they have given that Maruti is No 1 brand in INDIA and follows, Lux, Times of India and many more companies. Don’t you think that there has to be a proper way of segregation of each brand?

I personally feel that brands should be ranked in their own Industry. I cannot compete the brand called “SKODA” with “INTEL” but I can compare “SKODA” with “MERCEDES”.

Well, I guess it’s a nice idea to compare the brands lets do it our blog right away.

Commonwealth Games: Just 1500 days to go

So the countdown for the Commonwealth Games 2010 has just begun. Its just 1500 days more and do you think that are we ready for it? Athletes from 71 countries will in the capital and there are many things that need to be done. Delhi is short of hotel rooms, infrastructure, transport facilities, logistics and much much more.

Hotel Industry after Commonwealth Games 2010

Hotel Industry after Commonwealth Games 2010

Our country, especially Delhi is preparing fast for the Commonwealth games in 2101. I was just going through the Newspaper and saw that the DDA is auctioning hotel sites in Delhi in September 2006. These hotel sites are in Jasola, Dwarka, Shalimar Bagh, Wazirpur and many more sites are there. 10 sites will be auctioned in September itself.

The study by these newspapers says that if the Hotel site is auctioned for Rs. 400 Crores and the hotel building of 400 rooms will approximately need 600 Crores that makes the total to be 1000 Crores. In that case the Room Rate would be Rs. 25000/- per room per day just for breaking even!!!!!! Strange to here right!!!!

Now, what I think is that …. OK, people coming to visit the Commonwealth games might pay this amount for a room.

BUT…..

After the commonwealth games are over, what will happen with these hotels? Instead odf staying in a room for 25000/- bucks at Josola or Shalimar Bagh, I would prefer to stay at 10000/- bucks at the TAJ at Dhaula Kuan.

Toyota planning to expand fast in India but what bout the Traffic?

I read I an news today that Toyota has plans to expand in India at a rate of 10 times what it is doing now. Well I’m happy with the Toyota Innova I have but the not at all happy with the increasing traffic in Gurgaon. What will happen if all the automobile companies will grow at this rate. There are flyover and expressways being made at the moment if I think about the traffic being 10 times by now, I will definitely reach my office in 4 hours which I do in 25 min.
