B.M.S. College of Engineering the first private Engineering College ever to be set up in India, was established by Sri. B.M.Sreenivasaiah in 1946. It has the largest student population of engineering colleges in Karnataka, drawing students from other states of India and from abroad. It is also known for the annual inter-collegiate cultural fest UTSAV, one of the prominent student-managed fests in the country. Though a private engineering college, it is partially funded by the government of Karnataka. The college which celebrated its golden jubilee in 1997, is one of the oldest engineering colleges in the state of Karnataka.
